The Bare Necessities
Tucked inside doilies made of baker’s workwear, a series of stoneware bread loaves transform into porcelain éclairs.
Their gradual morphing from one to another draws a material parallel between the working class realities of a bakery, and artistic labor and its equivalent worth. As the son of a baker, Baietto deconstructs his family's bakery (that financially allowed him to become an artist) and questions how a different cultural value is given to sculpting food that sustains us, and sculpting food that lays inedible in a gallery.
